MACHOS is FINALLY HERE!!!!!!
I'm writing this from the lobby of Chicago Dramatists, where we are in the middle of tech for MACHOS. Yesterday (Monday the 29th) we loaded in the set and hung the lights, and painted. By "we" I mean I sat around and "supervised" while other people did all the work. Hey - I don't know how to saw a pipe or hang the lights! But I did stay until midnight painting. Today (Tuesday) we set all the cues and make it look pretty...er... handsome????? We open in one week, and start PREVIEWS in just 6 days!!!!!! I'm pretty excited. Will I see YOU there?

I've been wrapped up in MACHOS but surprise!!!!

We are doing a performance of S-e-x-Oh! Friday the 26th at 6pm at the University of Chicago.

Here's the scoop:

As part of our annual Caras de América—Latina/o Heritage Month Celebration, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is proud to present "S-E-X-Oh!," a witty and provocative cabaret-style show performed by members of Teatro Luna, Chicago's first and only all-Latina theater company. "S-E-X-Oh!" offers a bold new look at Latina sexuality from the point of view of six very different Latina women. Based on true life stories and a few strategic re-imaginings, it uses Teatro Luna's trademark ensemble-based aesthetic to enter into the taboo terrain of sex, gender, and sexuality. The themes are universal, crossing cultural barriers, and presented with humor and brutal honesty.

This show is not to be missed! Join us for what is sure to be an amazing night of theatre. You won't be disappointed!

The play will begin promptly at 6pm in BSLC 109. Stay after the play for an exciting Q&A session and reception!

For more information, please contact Rosa Yadira Ortiz at ryo@uchicago.edu.

This show is co-sponsored by The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) and Resources for Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP).

MACHOS opens on November 8th! I am enjoying the reaction to the cast photos we sent around last week. Several people have expressed their absolute outrage that we would cast men in our shows! After all, we are supposed to be an all-Latina theater company! Don't we think that is important any more?! Etc etc etc... Ja ja ja. I love it! But rest assured... this show about men is still performed by a (very handsome) all-Latina cast. See for yourself. Tickets are on sale now!
