Oh My Gosh!

THANK YOU to Keturah Davis for finally fixing my site so that I can update my blog/current events page! I have been stuck on June 2009 for almost a year (thanks a LOT, Blogger).

For all four of my devoted fans I offer the following recap:

- Directed a few shows, wrote a few poems, tried out a lot of lipgloss. Milani Buzz Worthy in Bronze is my favourite because it goes gorgeously with my naturally red hair and tan skin. By "naturally," of course I mean "acquired from a tube," which is the case for both the red hair and the tan (and somewhat streaky) skin.

-I am officially Dr. Paz! [Insert sound of Ce Ce Peniston singing here!] Awesome. I am the world's foremost expert on the performance of American identities as played out through lynching violence during the California Gold Rush. I was already the world's foremost expert on this obscure topic, but now it is backed up by three gorgeous little letters: P, H, and D.

-I got clip on extensions. They are pretty tacky, but I do love the miracle of a shoulder length bob one day, and long flowing tresses the next. I don't let them flow too much lest they fly off in the wind, but they are great for staid and stationary occasions.

-I got a job. TENURE TRACK! So now I don't have to bid a tearful adieu to my students and office chair every year. I'll be full-time at Columbia College, which is doubly brilliant because I get to stay in my beloved Chicago.

-I am in a FURY, a full-on Eyes Gleaming Nostrils Flaring and Fists Shaking At the Sky FURY over the recent anti-immigration and ethnic studies bills passed in Arizona (and soon-to-be passed in a few other states if hatred and bigotry gets its way). I have not yet figured out a place to channel all my fury, but when it comes, it will be MIGHTY!!!!!!! And Lovely and Talented! Until then, I'm grateful for mis chavas over at Proyecto Latina, who have been sources of hope and inspiration during this difficult time. "This difficult time" makes it sound like I am in mourning which is absolutely right. I am mourning my brief and misguided illusion that we were headed into a more inclusive, loving America.

Okay, this website is heading into a major overhaul this summer. Look for an updated manifesto, a bio that isn't from 2006, and multi-media samples of my work coming sometime in July. Until then, ignore the parts of this site that seem hopelessly outdated, including photos of hairdos I sported four years ago. Deal? Deal!
